The Bar Scene
I’m not really sure why people consider bars a good place to meet people. It’s extremely loud and you can’t hear anything. The evening usually starts off with people being very standoffish because they aren’t drunk enough, and by late night people are so drunk they aren’t sure if they are flirting with someone of the opposite sex. The pitch black rooms don’t help either.
I’ve been intrigued by this idea of meeting people at ‘silent parties’. They go on around the city at various bars, and people write down their conversations to one another, seems great for people that prefer to chat on instant message or email, and you can’t get drunk enough that you can’t hold down a pen.
I myself am guilty of thinking that I can meet someone at a bar, only problem is if this guy turns out to be my husband to be, do I really want to tell my mother that we meet at some crazy transvestite bar on the lower east side? Thankfully that hasn’t happened to me yet.
